Every console, and the cheat device it used

Pick a machine to see the games we hold codes for and the code formats that system’s hardware accepted. The console list is the same one that drives the Leumas Consoles deck, so a system named here is a system you can actually play.

Why the list is shared with the deck

These console ids come straight from the Leumas emulator engine rather than from a list typed out here. That is what lets a code page offer to open the same game in the deck at consoles.leumas.tech, and the deck offer the codes for what you are playing β€” the two sites are joined by exactly these identifiers, so a second hand-written list would let them quietly disagree.

One device does not fit every machine

The Action Replay, the GameShark and the CodeBreaker each ran on an overlapping but different set of consoles, and on some systems the same hardware shipped under two names in two territories. Each console page names the formats that apply to it, so you do not have to work out which device you are even looking for.

Questions

Why does every code name a region and a revision?

Because a code is written against one exact build of a game. The European, North American and Japanese releases lay memory out differently, and a later revision of one of them can move it again. A code that is right for one is usually wrong for the others, and "wrong" here means writing an arbitrary value into whatever occupies that address β€” frequently the save. A code filed against a bare game title is a code nobody can trust.
